This is a heritage lard pig breed that originated from Hungary. They are very resilient, thrive in the pasture setting, are very docile and have some of the best tasting meat on the market. Most importantly, they are crazy cute with their thick curly hair and droopy ears.
Did you know that conventionally raised pigs never see the sun? They spend their whole lives in a giant barn crowded with other pigs, inhaling manure fumes and walking on concrete slabs. No room to run or snow to play in. Sounds terrible right?! Here at Willowick, we are determined to celebrate the piggyness of the pig and give them a lif
Did you know that conventionally raised pigs never see the sun? They spend their whole lives in a giant barn crowded with other pigs, inhaling manure fumes and walking on concrete slabs. No room to run or snow to play in. Sounds terrible right?! Here at Willowick, we are determined to celebrate the piggyness of the pig and give them a life worth living. Our pigs live their whole lives with access to pasture that is rotated regularly. This makes their meat juicy, red and marbled with fat full of vitamin D and Omega-3 from their luxurious life under the sun. And we all have the peace of mind that the animal has been loved and respected through the whole process.
In addition to all the grass, roots and bugs they can graze on, our precious piggies get eggs, whey from the cheese-making process, fresh garden and orchard produce, and a local feed with mineral supplements. We strive for a wide variety because we believe that for all living things: We are all what we eat.
Hi! from Ophelia and Chestnut!
